I dried my tears, swallowed my pills, left my family, moved in a new house, changed my car, erased the pictures, closed the accounts, forgot the phone numbers, threw away the CDs, had one-night stands…
I really changed everything, but nothing has really changed. I just feel like a veteran of a war that I didn’t choose to fight, living with scars, bad memories and alcohol. What’s wrong with my heart?
Sounds familiar, except for the pills and alcohol. I’m flattered to notice I’m in your inspired by list. Thank you.

There’s nothing wrong with your heart. It just needs time to heal. And SOME of those cracks won’t ever GO away. My friend Plato’s Groove likes to quote the Leonard Cohen song Anthem:
Ring the bells that still can ring
Forget your perfect offering
There is a crack, a crack in everything
That’s how the light gets in
That light will eventually heal you. Be patient and learn to listen to what’s around you. We all carry cracks inside… And I really like the honesty in your work.

Thank you Calen for your moving words. And thanks for quoting LC, I love his songs. And I love Plato’s Groove…

And, btw, that light is already shining back out to help heal others…

Sometimes I’d like I could extract it and put it away in a box, like Davy Jones…

When it comes to matters of the heart, I don’t think that concepts of right and wrong really matter. Just take care…

All that stuff b4 would be funneled differently if you gave your heart away and the congregation said amen.
