Trains (SSFD* #1)

Be it as the leader of Porcupine Tree, half of the Blackfield duo or in his solo work, Mr. Steven Wilson surely is a gifted guy when it comes to giving birth to melancholy pervaded songs.

On a more personal note, I often feel my inner voice dissolving into his words and music. Which, I admit, doesn’t always do me good. But don’t we all pleasantly indulge in sad feelings sometimes?

“Train set and match spied under the blind
Shiny and contoured the railway winds
And I’ve heard the sound from my cousin’s bed
The hiss of the train at the railway head

Always the summers are slipping away

A 60 ton angel falls to the earth
A pile of old metal, a radiant blur
Scars in the country, the summer and her

Always the summers are slipping away
Find me a way for making it stay

When I hear the engine pass
I’m kissing you wide
The hissing subsides, I’m in luck

When the evening reaches here
You’re tying me up
I’m dying of love, It’s OK”

I didn’t know this song, although I do like much of his work. This is a great piece and, as you say, easy to dissolve into. Thanks.

I’m not familiar with him. SadLiked the song, however. The music especially. Is there REALLY a Sad Songs for Dumbies??? I’m speechless.

No, there’s no SSFD but maybe we could all take advantage of blogs like this for outbidding and writing lists of our personal favorite sad songs. Could be funny. Very sad, but funny 😄 Hugs my sweet Calen!

Perhaps you could issue a challenge and ask everyone to pingback their response to you on your blog. I’ll bet you could comprise quite a list! 😀
